The commune of Saillac, surface area 1570ha, is formed by the merging of the two former parishes of Saillac and Jamblusse.

The occupation of this site on the plateau goes back a long way. Celtic groups found it suited them ; a megalith from the druidic era constitutes the proof.

At a later date two roman roads crossed at Saillac, whose name comes from a rich gallo-roman landowner SALIUS who possessed a vast domain.
