The lavoir

At the crossroads of two long-distance footpaths, the GR 65 & the GR 36, and the roman road which linked Rome to Santiago de Compostella via the Aveyron & the Lot, Bach is noted for two large wells, a "roman" well and an "English" well constructed just outside the village. These provided water not only for the villagers but also for the pilgrims on the roman road.
Bach enjoyed an era of prosperity at the end of the 19th century during the period when the phosphate mines of the Cloup d'Aural were being exploited.
